AI Readiness Assessment · Family law & divorce firms
Less time chasing documents, replies and payments.
In one call we find where disclosures, client messages and retainer payments stall, then hand you a report on which tools fit (often features you already pay for) and what each costs, and a 4-day plan your team can follow to turn on the first fixes.
$999 flat · full refund if fewer than 3 tools pass

Built for family law firms buried in client communication.
This is for managing partners, firm administrators, and lead paralegals who keep hearing about AI but haven't seen it save an hour in their own firm. You don't need to be technical. You get an AI consultant's answer to one question: what's worth your money?
- Consult requests from callers in crisis, many of whom never retain, all handled by hand
- Conflict checks that have to include the opposing spouse and every related party
- Financial disclosure collection: bank statements, pay stubs, and tax returns chased one email at a time
- First drafts of routine pleadings, parenting plan templates, and correspondence
- A steady stream of client calls and emails, much of it unbilled or hard to capture
- Evergreen retainer replenishment and trust balance reminders sent manually
It's not a fit if:
- You want custom software built. That's a separate engagement (see What happens after).
- You're a solo practice with one main bottleneck. The free 15-minute call will probably get you further.
- You need a compliance or security audit. This assessment looks at your operations. It doesn't certify anything.
Chasing documents, replies and payments.
Family law owners describe the same kind of chasing, three ways.
The file can't move until clients send their financial documents.
“Clients aren't responding to our emails”
Family law attorney, The Sterling Family Law Show podcast, 2025 We find where disclosure collection stalls. The report recommends a document-request tool with checklists and automatic reminders, often a portal feature you already pay for, with cost, setup time and estimated hours back. You leave with a 4-day plan your team can follow to turn it on.
Clients call and email at all hours, and much of that time never makes it onto a bill.
We map where client calls and emails come from and recommend update, FAQ and time-capture tools aimed at the contacts that can wait until Monday, and at capturing time you already work. No promised result.
Retainers run dry, and the balance ends up written off.
We check your billing setup for replenishment triggers, payment links and trust-safe reminders, show which ones you already own, and list cost and setup time for tools that request replenishment earlier. We make no claim about write-offs.
Quotes are from public posts, testimony and interviews by practice owners and staff. They are not our clients.
We start with your bottlenecks, not with the tool.
Here's what lands in your inbox.

Chatbot that answers client questions. Most questions are about the client's own case, and a bot can't answer those. It would shift the calls around, not cut them.
Your 4-day quick-wins plan
- Day one: Consult booking. Turn it on with screening questions.
- Day two: Document portal. Set up the disclosure checklist.
- Day three: Client updates. Load the FAQ and update messages and train paralegals (30 min).
- Day four: Retainer requests. Turn on replenishment, then check the open requests.
- Book & pay
- Discovery call (60 min)
- We do the research
- Review call (30 min)
We record the call (with your OK) so the recommendations come from what you said, not from our assumptions. Your written report arrives within 3 business days of the discovery call, and the whole thing takes about 90 minutes of your time.
We check every recommendation against the systems you already run: practice management like Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, or Smokeball, plus your payment processor and email. If your current software already has the feature, we show you where it is first.
What $999 buys, and what each part is worth to you.
- 60-minute discovery call
- Someone outside the practice maps where the hours actually go, so you stop guessing.
- Written report: 3–7 tools matched to your bottlenecks
- A short list to act on, instead of a dozen vendor demos.
- Impact–effort matrix
- You see what to do first, and what to ignore.
- Cost, setup time and estimated hours back for every tool
- You see what each tool costs, and whether Clio, MyCase or your current software already does it, before you buy.
- The tools that didn't pass, and why
- You also learn what not to buy.
- 4-day plan
- Day by day, written for your staff, not for a techie: what to sign up for, connect and own.
- Financial impact from your own numbers
- The math is shown, so you can check it yourself.
- 30-minute review call
- Your questions answered before you spend another dollar.
What the problem already costs
- In a secret-shopper test of 500 U.S. law firms, only 33% responded to email, and 48% were essentially unreachable by phone (Clio Legal Trends Report, 2024; all practice areas).
- Every unbilled after-hours call is time you already worked.
Against that, $999 once.
Fewer than 3 tools pass? You get your $999 back.
Full refund.
A tool passes only if it
- brings in revenue,
- gives your team hours back,
- or improves the client experience,
and only after we've
- priced it,
- timed the setup
- and checked it against the systems you already run.
The report marks every tool pass or fail and shows why. Think a “pass” doesn't hold up? Say so on the review call: if we can't show it meets the test, it counts as a fail. If fewer than 3 pass, ask within 7 days of your review call and you get the full $999 back, no argument.
- The report is yours.
- Use it with anyone, including another consultant or vendor.
- No commissions.
- We don't take referral fees from any tool we recommend.
- No records, no logins.
- We never need client files, or a login to your practice management system. You tell us how the firm runs.
- Data rule
- Every tool that would handle client information is checked against the confidentiality questions in ABA Formal Opinion 512, and the report shows whether each tool would touch client information and whether it cleared that check. Whether to use it stays your firm's call.
- One mention, no pitch.
- If you want help with bigger projects later, we offer an ongoing Fractional CAIO engagement, and your $999 is credited if you start within 30 days. We bring it up once on the review call, and that's all.See how Fractional CAIO works

Questions owners ask before booking
Do you set anything up?
No. We deliver the report and the 4-day plan. Your own team follows the plan to turn on the first fixes, and you sign up with each vendor directly.
Why pay before the discovery call?
The call is the work. What we learn from your answers is what the report is built on. Paying up front also means you get our full attention, not a sales pitch.
What if AI isn't the answer for us?
Then the report says so. Plenty of the best fixes aren't AI at all: a feature your current software already has, better reminders, or a template. Those count as tools too.
Can't I just ask ChatGPT?
For some questions it's a fine start. It can't ask follow-up questions about how your office actually runs, check a tool against your systems, or price the setup. The report is built from your answers, not from a prompt.
Do the recommended tools cost extra?
Yes. You pay each vendor directly, and the report shows every monthly cost and contract term before you sign up for anything.
Will the tools work with the systems we already run?
Checking that is part of the research. If a tool doesn't work with your setup, it doesn't make the report.
What happens to what we tell you?
The assessment is a conversation, not a data transfer. Please keep client details off the call. The recording and transcript are used only to write your report.
How long until I get the report?
Within 3 business days of your discovery call. We schedule the review call when the report is ready.
Who's on the call?
On your side: you, plus anyone who knows where the work piles up, often an office manager, firm administrator or lead paralegal. On ours: the person who writes your report. The same person runs both calls.
Are you giving legal advice?
No. This is advice on running the firm: intake, documents, communication and billing. Every legal decision and every filing stays with your attorneys.
Our clients share very sensitive information. Do you see it?
No. We don't need client files, and we ask that no client names or case details come up on the call. For each tool, the report shows whether it would touch client data and whether it cleared the confidentiality check, so you can weigh it against your confidentiality duties.
I'm not a techie. Will we be able to do this?
That's who it's written for. Every tool shows its setup time, and the 4-day plan is written for your staff to follow, day by day.
Is this a pitch to pad our invoices?
No. It's about capturing time you already work, like the after-hours call that never got written down, and asking for replenishment before the balance runs dry.
Can anything help with clients who call constantly?
It can't change the client, but it can change the load. Scheduled updates and a clear FAQ cut the repeat questions, and time capture records the calls you do take. The report shows what fits your firm.
Full refund if fewer than 3 tools pass.
